Like with any good story, these vases have two sides.
The vase on the left is from an old White Birch log that came from my parents wood pile. I haven't turned any of this wood in a while, and while turning it, I remembered why. The wood is very dry and is being ravaged by bugs, which is not an entirely bad thing. As the bugs are doing there thing inside the wood, they are leaving trails behind. So when I turn the piece, I then expose where they have been, and it gives the piece a very unique look. The vase on the right is another Red Maple, and I was very happy to see that the spalting process had started on this as well. The grain pattern in the Maple is fantastic and then throw in some black lines from Mother Nature and you've got a one of a kind.
