Barns

For some reason the owners of this barn had it partially dismantled this past year. I would imagine someone made an offer for the slate roof and barn siding. I have had similar offers about our barn in recent years. It is sad to see barns disappearing from the landscape. They have always been part of it for so long. We had one on our road that was taken down completely this summer, and it was hard to watch the process. That barn was not dismantled, it was just torn down and burned up. They dug a huge hole and all that was left was a patch of clay. I would rather watch someone take the time and effort to save that history. Whether they are going to sell the materials or reassemble the barn somewhere else.

These two pictures show the framework a little better. I like the diamond shapes in the middle of the walls. I don't think this barn is as old as ours, but it is still interesting to see how the framing was done.
