Honey Dippers ready to go to "market"

I had to take two pictures of these new honey dippers because the above shows more detail, and below shows the color so nicely.

These will be going to the Ryder Road Farms Marketplace on Robin's next trip over. All are made from Cherry and finished with mineral oil. I don't think I could turn two of the same if I tried. They truly are one of a kinds.

More from Ryder Road Farms Marketplace

Ryder Road Farms Marketplace is coming together nicely.

On the second shelf from the top, on the right side, notice the small table and chair. The picture below is a close-up.

Very cool.

Granite candle holder.

The Girls

Rainy spring day today, a good day to cuddle up with a loved one or a good book. These two are usually close by, whatever room we happen to be in.

Little Dipper

Today I turned a honey dipper and realized how long it's been since I last turned one.
I picked up a nice piece of Cherry about 3 weeks ago, and after some passes through the table saw, I have some blanks for turning.

I finished this with mineral oil and then, while it was still on the lathe, I applied bees wax and polished it with a paper towel.

And of course my trusty companion Eve was outside waiting for me. Waiting for me to throw a ball or frisbee for her that is.

Promised Photos

First photos from Ryder Road Farms Marketplace.

I will be posting more pictures as this shop comes into it's own. Robin is lucky enough to get her products in at the infancy of this exciting venture. I think this is the perfect time and place for a "marketplace" shop like this. With the great response we had for Christmas in the Country this past year, as I said before, I feel people are looking for quality and uniqueness that you don't find in the big box stores. This will be a great outlet for local artisans.

More Product Please

Robin has been asked to bring more product to the new outlet. Today she will be setting more of her inventory up, including some of my wood turnings. I asked that she bring the camera along, so I can post photos tonight, stay tuned.

Opportunity

Our youngest in the loft doorway a couple of years ago. This opening had a track for a door above it, but no doors.

My father salvaged these doors from a neighbor, when they replaced them with more modern doors. He asked me if I wanted them and thank goodness I said yes. I was able to find the old door hardware in the barn and when we fastened them this is what we had.

I will have to adjust my opening, but can you imagine a better fit? Opportunities arise every day, some of the time we can benefit from them, and some of the time they just aren't meant to be.

Craft News

Robin has a third outlet for her crafts. Very exciting news from a local person with big ideas of a marketplace destination. She will continue with pieces at Timeless Art and Backstreet. More to follow.

Happy Spring

Robin and I were walking around yesterday afternoon, just checking the different gardens out, and seeing what was popping up. She said this was her favorite part of spring, remembering where she planted stuff from last year. Tulips from her Dad.

Daffodils seem to be multiplying every year.

We have never planted any Crocus, but someone did, and we get to enjoy them.

As well as these Snowdrops, they were also a gift from a previous gardener. As I sat out on the deck and read the newspaper tonight, the birds were busy singing and the sun was warm. I was even bitten by a couple of mosquitoes. I will take the early bites, our bats will be out soon, eating them all up. Hope everyone is enjoying this spring.

First Fire

There is something special about the first fire of the spring. It's still damp and cold enough to see your breath when you are starting it, and this one was done before the time change, so it got dark pretty quick. The kids had asked to roast some marshmallows and of course we could roast them on the grill, but I think that's lame. So up to the barn for some 150 year old kindling (lath) and a couple of pieces of Ash, and we had a nice little fire. How many times are the throw togethers some of the best memories. Almost every time I say.

Spring

I was out wandering around today and found these crocus coming up.
We also have some blood root or snow drops in this area. Someone from the past planted these and we get to enjoy them every spring.

These pictures are for my Aunt Helen, she has not been able to poke around yet. She already has some tomato plants started. She's itchin' like the rest of us. Happy Spring.
